Backpack drives across the city are providing relief to hundreds of families who may struggle with the cost of back-to-school shopping this fall.
“Backpack and school supply donations are such a huge help because they help parents make sure their children are prepared for school and don’t feel like they have to go without, and it takes the stress off to know that their children don’t have less than other children in their class,” Mateo said.
Open Doors held a backpack drive on Aug. 13 to collect school supply donations for the children living in its emergency shelter. The nonprofit is also partnering with other local shelters that serve families to make sure all kids living in shelters can start the new school year with the same supplies as their classmates.
