Some Norwalk families wait in line for hours at food pantries as more struggle to afford food

From July 2022 to June 2023, the kitchen [at Open Doors] served over 71,700 meals; from July 2023 to March 2024 — a period three months shorter — the kitchen had already served over 70,600 meals. By the end of the fiscal year in June, Open Doors expects to serve 96,000 meals at its soup kitchen.

In fiscal year 2023, Open Doors’ food pantry served 410 households. That number more than doubled to 965 households within the first eight months of fiscal year 2024.
